Not sure if I’m confessing or boasting right now but I figured out how to masturbate 

long before I knew what masturbation was 

. As far as I was concerned, I was the original masturbator, the great inventor of something that didn’t have a name and didn’t even have a purpose but it felt dizzyingly awesome and that was all that mattered. I was in awe of my creation. 

It was only later that I that not only was there a word for my furtive hobby, but that just about everyone does it and in an endless array of ways. As I got older, masturbation had an image overhaul too: yesterday’s ‘dirty little secret’ (or in my case, squeaky clean but I digress) had become today’s buzzword for me-time and self-care, 

improved psychological and physical health

Here’s another confession: I don’t wank as an act of self-care, to improve my heart health, or to lower my risk of cancer. I do it because, like all those years ago, it feels awesome. As we celebrate Masturbation May here on Lustery, we want to promote a more honest discourse around masturbation and to re-examine an image that has gone from unclean to überclean – because masturbation can be messy and we should be allowed to talk about it. 

We shouldn’t need scientific sounding discourse for our pleasure to feel valid when being just plain horny is, honestly, legit as hell. 

So to honor taking things into your own hands, we’re not going to tell you why you should masturbate and we’re definitely not going to tell you that there’s any right way to do it. Instead, we’ve invited some of our couples to detail how they like to masturbate and incorporate it into their sex lives.
