The job of a public service broadcaster includes comprehensive, diverse and objective reporting on political and social issues – and these days, it’s hard to dispute the fact that pornography is one of those issues. Whether people turn to porn for entertainment, inspiration or even sex education, its impact is huge yet also largely ignored by mainstream media. In fact, that’s exactly what Lustery founder Paulita Pappel and ZDF Magazin Royale host Jan Böhmermann thought when they shot the very first public-funded porn film in Germany.
This ambitious world-first recognized that the important role played by a public broadcaster can and should extend to pornography too: in this case, the task of public service broadcasting was to set the best example by creating a porn film that celebrates sexuality in a positive, inclusive, and safe framework.
